12
bit SR-CMOS technology

The
long wait is finally over. At last there is a true high
speed digital imaging alternative to 16mm rotating prism
film technology.
The new Phantom v7.0 supplies the blazing speed and
high sensitivity needed to Inc. record the extremely
fast events that were once the exclusive domain of rotating
prism film cameras, or simply beyond the capabilities
of existing digital high speed imaging systems. The
v7.0's new SR-CMOS sensor developed by Vision Research,
has been designed exclusively for extremely high speed
while also supplying resolution that rivals small and
medium format motion picture film. This new sensor also
continues to offer the advanced features of our previous
designs including the on- chip circuitry that provides
true "snap shot" shutter capabilities, auto
exposure, and pixel level Extreme Dynamic Range? (EDR)
control to extend picture quality in harsh lighting
conditions.
The v7.0 sensor offers 12 bit monochrome bit depth for
outstanding image quality, and the color image sensors
now have a user selectable bit depth of 24, 36, or 48
bits.
800×600
pixel resolution
Unlike our previous sensor designs that employed square
image formats, the new v7.0 sensor offers a 4:3 full
frame aspect ratio (standard TV screen format) composed
of 800x600 pixels. Using the CAR (Continuously Adjustable
Resolution) feature, the active image area is adjustable
in 16x8 pixel increments to maximize recording speeds
and recording times allowing you to tailor the field
of view to your test subject's unique shape and dimensions.
4,800
full frame pps, 150,000 max
The
Phantom v7.0 offers a recording speed of 4,800 full
frame pictures per second!Consider the ability to record
512x384 pixel color images at 10,000pps under natural
outdoor lighting conditions. The v7.0's maximum frame
rate exceeds 150,000pps making it the fastest continuously
recording digital camera in existence! You can view
the v7.0 speed chart here.
To put this in perspective; the v7.0 has a pixel count
almost twice that of our popular and award winning v4.1
camera, but the full frame recording speed is almost
five times faster. This is truly impressive new technology!
Color
or Monochrome models
|
The
monochrome v7.0 provides 12 bit image depth
for extended gray scale image quality. If you
choose a color camera, you have the opportunity
to choose between 24,36, or 48 bit images. It's
your choice, you can now make a selection based
on final file size or the need for increased
image quality. |
2
micro second exposure
An extremely fast shutter controls image blur. The v7.0
offers continuously adjustable shutter speeds down to
2 祍ec (1/500,000 second). This shutter is a true "snap
shot," or "global" shutter, functioning
at the pixel level of a new sensor sensitive enough
to take advantage of its speed. Other designs may offer
"rolling" shutters that can distort high speed
data results.
Gigabit
Ethernet, Firewire, or RS232/422
A
PC compatible laptop or desktop computer running the
Phantom software package, included with each camera
purchase, controls communication with a single, or multiple
networked cameras via a IEEE 1394 FireWire? or the recently
added Gigabit Ethernet communication interface for setup,
control, viewing images, analysis, and download of image
files. Using the FireWire interface a single computer
can control up to 63 cameras, and the Phantom software
insures v7.0 compatibility with all previous camera
models from the v4.0 and up.
Optional remote optical fiber links can extend the working
distance between the built camera control computer to
the camera when using the FireWire interface, but additional
capabilities for RS232/422 control, or Gigabit Ethernet
networking is also into each camera. Our new Multi IOIOI
acts as a junction box to simplify the setup and operation
of up to four cameras, and the Multi IOIOIs can be chained
to further expand the network. The v7.0 can also be
controlled with a Palm PDA. Our Phantom software also
insures v7.0 compatibility with all previous camera
models from the v4.0 and up.
Continuous
data stream
Since the release of our original CMOS camera design,
the v4.0, one of the most
requested features that users wanted to see in a
new camera has been real-time
streaming output. Previous technology limited speed,
greatly increased the size of the camera package,
and the cost was prohibitive.
The Phantom v7.0 comes through data streaming capability!
Both the Phantom v7.0
and v9.0 can now be supplied with the optional ability
to stream real-time image data to an external massive
storage device. This is not an off-the-shelf solution
at the current time because of unique customer requirements
and their vastly differing preferences for storage
hardware. If this is a requirement for your application,
let us know so we can discuss your requirements
to maximize your options. Our customers who record
rocket launches and work with aircraft mounted cameras
will see many of their problems solved with this
unique capability.
The v7.0 now supports NTSC or PAL video output for
real-time color image monitoring or recording of
the camera view.
In addition to the ability to input modulated or
un-modulated IRIG-B timing, the camera can be locked
to the signal, and multiple cameras can be variably
phase shifted from one another to extend coverage.
The v7.0 also accepts range data input to record
information for other instrumentation i.e. azimuth/elevation
data from a tracking mounts etc.
If your next high speed digital imaging system needs
to be capable of ground breaking speed with excellent
image quality, the new Phantom v7.0 will meet or
exceed your requirements!
