SR-CMOS
technology
|
The
new Phantom v6.0 Multi-head high speed digital
imaging system employs the same advanced SR-CMOS
sensor that has made our v4.x series cameras popular
worldwide. No-bloom recording rates of 1,000 pictures
per second at a full frame resolution of 512x512
pixels is nowpossible using up to four miniature
remote heads controlled byone compact and lightweight
camera control unit.
The easily mounted v6.0 components, packaged in
small and rugged enclosures, supply perfectly
matched trigger synchronization making this system
an ideal choice for automotive crash testing and
critical 3D applications.

512×512
pixel resolution
Expect
outstanding resolution and image quality from the v6.0.
Each head's 512x512 CMOS sensor provides a total pixel
count that rivals or exceeds many larger single head
systems, some of which continue to rely on older CCD
technology. Our square pixel APS (Active Pixel Sensor)
technology has been designed exclusively for high speed
applications and produces high framing rates with excellent
sensitivity.
1000
full frame pps
The
Phantom v6.0 offers a maximum recording speed of 1,000
pictures per second,
per head, using each sensor's full 512x512 pixel array.
Frame rates are continuously variable from 30 to 1,000
pictures per second. Selections for higher rates at
reduced image sizes are available using the Phantom
camera control software.
Color
or monochrome
Our
v6.0 is available in color (24 bit) or monochrome (8
bit) models. Monochrome v4.1 heads offer the highest
sensitivity and image resolution, but many times color
is an important application requirement and our proprietary
pixel level RGB striping offers outstanding high speed
color images (sample images are available on our Phantom
page linked at the bottom of this page).
10
micro second exposure
Even
at 1,000 pictures per second, some subjects are moving
fast enough to cause image blur without the help of
additional shuttering. The Phantom's SR-CMOS sensor
allows us to offer continuously variable shutter speeds
down to 10 micro seconds (1/100,000 second), with an
optional speed of 5 micro seconds. This design provides
true "snap shot" or "global" shuttering.
Other systems may offer "rolling" shutters
that can distort high speed data results.
Speeds
of up to 32,000pps
|
Take
advantage of the Phantom's capability for increased
recording speeds by simply reducing the image
size. When reduced image sizes are used, often
accomplished by reducing unneeded areas at the
top, bottom, or sides of important subject information,
data can be moved more rapidly within the camera
resulting in higher recording speeds. This option
can also be used to increase recording time
at any frame rate (a chart is available on our
Phantom v4.1 page linked at the bottom of this
page).

Firewire
Data Transfer
All of the Phantom camera functions
can be controlled using a laptop or desktop IBM
compatible computer meeting our minimum system requirements.
This PC is normally used to control camera setup,
perform image playback and analysis functions, and
saving of recorded images via a IEEE 1394 "FireWire?"
connection.
High
speed digital cameras generate big files fast! The
Phantom software allows you to save entire "ciné"
image files or just small portions of them to an
external computer or storage device. We have speeded
this process by incorporating IEEE 1394 FireWire?
I/O technology into the v6.0 design. FireWire data
transfer is much faster than serial, parallel, or
USB connections, and also features plug and play
with hot swap capabilities. A single PC FireWire
connection supports control of up to sixty- three
v6.0 cameras. Linking miltiple cameras using our
new Multi IOIOI junction unit speeds setup and simplifies
the transfer of image files.
For applications that require camera placement in
hazardous areas or locations be inaccessible during
testing, extending distance between the camera and
control can accomplished using our Phantom Remote
Control options.
The main multi-connector "breakout" cable
supplies connections for basic camera
operation and additional features that include:
1) trigger 2) sync in 3) strobe sync 4) IRIG-B timing
4) NTSC/PAL video out. For basic imaging, after
the camera setup is completed, the PC can be disconnected
and only power and trigger connections are required
for use, a handy feature for moving platform or
field applications.
Software:
setup, view, analyze

The
Phantom software that is included with the v6.0
provides the user with controls to setup camera
operating parameters while viewing live images from
each camera on the controlling computer's monitor,
or a standard RS170 video monitor. Frame rate, shutter
speed, and EDR functions are set here for the connected
cameras before the shot.
The software also provides controls for multiple
head recorded image playback that can reviewed on
site immediately after the test directly from camera
memory. Image analysis functions are also included
in the software which feature measurement, speed,
and angular data collection. Additional analysis
and data report generation from archived files for
use in presentations, training, or publication can
be performed post- test at any time.
Single, multiple images, or whole ciné files can
be enhanced using sharpen, lighten, darken, and
gamma tools and then saved in your choice of several
common, and not so common image formats making the
results of your test suitable for almost any electronic
or print application.
